The word is officially out: Côte Basque is the hottest ticket in Melbourne right now, and we are absolutely thrilled to share that our Weathercraft Barrel Fermented Albariño has found a home on their spectacular wine list.
If you haven’t yet heard the buzz, Côte Basque is the latest masterpiece from culinary icon Andrew McConnell. Tucked away on Crossley Street in the CBD, it is a gorgeous, high-energy homage to the wood-fired, seaside pintxos bars and bistros of the Basque coast. Securing a table right now is no easy feat—it is officially the city’s most coveted reservation.
To have our Beechworth Albariño pouring by the glass in such an electric, world-class venue is an incredibly proud moment for us.
Why the Pairing Works
With seafood and wood-fired cooking at the heart of Côte Basque’s menu, our barrel-fermented Albariño feels right at home. Its freshness and layered texture make it a natural partner for the menu’s smoky, savoury flavours.
- The Wine: Our Albariño brings beautiful texture, complex layers, and those distinctive lemongrass and citrus aromatics that come from careful wild fermentation and seasoned French oak ageing.
- The Food: It is structural and vibrant enough to cut through the rich, smoky flavours of their wood-fired menu. It is an absolute dream alongside their signature wood-fired potato bread with cultured butter, salted anchovies, and grilled local mackerel.
Heading to the City?
If you are lucky enough to snag a table at Côte Basque, look for us on the rotating by-the-glass list (pulling up a stool at the bar is your best bet for a walk-in!). Grab a glass, order some seafood, and let us know what you think of the pairing.
A massive thank you to the incredible front-of-house and sommelier team at Côte Basque for championing independent, Victorian-grown varieties.
